Textile Design

This course involves the creation of designs and products for woven, knitted, stitched or printed fabrics and involves an understanding of fibres, yarns and fabrics.

 

In Year 10, students spend two terms undertaking a variety of small tasks and projects to develop their practical skills before undertaking a portfolio-based project which runs into Year 11. Students then have an extended preparation period for a final 10-hour controlled assessment-making assignment.

What you will learn:

Students are required to demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding through areas of study which include:

  • Constructing textiles

  • Fashion design

  • Installed textiles

  • Soft furnishings

  • Stitched and/or embellished textiles

  • Digital textiles

  • Digital fabrics

  • Printed fabrics

 

Students will work independently and use sketchbooks for drawing and development of their ideas into real-world textile products. They should demonstrate creativity and independent experimentation with materials and techniques.
