Performing Arts
EXAM BOARD: PEARSON
HEAD OF DRAMA: Mr Craige
STAFF: Mrs Ross, Miss Molyneux
The Performing Arts BTEC aims to give students the opportunity to explore and develop as ‘triple threat’ performers and practitioners. The three main skills of singing, dancing and acting are explored both practically and theoretically through differing activities and assessment. Students will expand upon their prior knowledge and ability within the three areas in a professional manner, with the opportunity for showcase and performance. Students will need to be motivated, focused and up for a challenge!

Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts
Learners will develop their understanding of the performing arts by examining practitioners’ work and the processes used to create performance.
Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts
Learners will develop their performing arts skills and techniques through the reproduction of acting, dance and/or musical theatre repertoire as performers.
Component 3: Performing to a Brief
Learners will be given the opportunity to work as part of a group to contribute to a workshop performance, as either a performer or designer, in response to a given brief and stimulus.
Good attendance is a crucial aspect for students of this subject area. Due to the nature of this subject and group work components, students will not be able to complete the set tasks successfully without good attendance. Students are also required to attend after school rehearsals when devising and creating work.
