Most students will be entered for both Language iGCSE and Literature GCSE qualifications. Both English Language and English Literature exams will be taken terminally (in the summer series of Year 11).

English Language Examination:

The English Language qualification contains elements of Literature to ensure that all students meet the National Curriculum requirements. This means that students are still able to pursue either English Literature or English Language at A Level, if successful at GCSE.

PAPER 1: READING

Duration: 2 hours. 80 marks total. Entry May/June of Year 11.

Structured and extended writing questions. Questions will be based on three reading texts.

This component is eligible for grades A* - G.

PAPER 2: DIRECTED WRITING AND COMPOSITION

Duration: 2 hours. 80 marks total.

Candidates answer two questions.

English Literature Examination:

PAPER 1: POETRY & PROSE

Duration: 2 hours. 90 marks total. Closed book (texts are not allowed in the exam). Externally assessed.
