The Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Sport is for learners who want to acquire sector-specific applied knowledge and skills through vocational contexts. Learners will explore the different types and providers of sport and physical activity and the equipment and technology available for participation. They will also explore the different types of participant and their needs in order to gain an understanding of how to increase participation for others in sport and physical activity, and further develop their knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology.

Learners will undertake practical sessions to develop skills in planning and delivering sports activity sessions to participants. The qualification enables learners to develop their sector-specific skills, such as sport analysis and sports leadership, using realistic vocational contexts and personal skills.
Unit 1: Preparing to take part in Sport and Physical Activity
Explore different types of sports provision for a case study. Understand the equipment and technology required for a participation plan. Demonstrate a suitable warm-up in response to the case study.

Task 1: Use knowledge acquired to select suitable physical activities for the case study provided considering the provision available.

Task 2: Use knowledge acquired to select and discuss how technology would affect provision for the case study person.

Task 3: Demonstrate practical delivery, communication and planning by producing a warm-up plan and demonstration of the warm-up video. Evidence of the warm-up will be approx. 10 minutes.
Unit 2: Taking part and improving other participants’ sporting performance
To develop an understanding of participating in sport by developing knowledge and understanding of skills and strategies used, in addition to being able to demonstrate these skills through conditioned practice or drills.

Task 1: Understand how different components of fitness are used in different physical activities.

Task 2: Video of sports skills in a given scenario - approx. 15 minute video in isolated/competitive practice.

Task 3: Rules, regulations, roles and responsibilities of officials.

Task 4: Demonstrating one skill - video evidence (approx. 10 minutes) and written response.
Unit 3: Developing fitness to improve other participants’ performance in sport and physical activity
External synoptic exam.
ASSESSMENT:
UNIT 1
Internal (PSA) 3 tasks, externally moderated. 60 marks total.
5 hours of supervised sessions. Task 1: 2 hours, Task 2: 1 hour, Task 3: 2 hours.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. 60 marks total.
