EXAM BOARD: WJEC

Candidates will be required to offer three activities for assessment from two different activity areas and are expected to commit to these sports outside of the PE curriculum. Students must be aware that practical activities may be video recorded and used for assessment. If this is likely to cause an issue, students should not choose this subject. Students opting for GCSE PE should be actively participating in three or more sports at school level or above.

Students will be assessed in 3 different activities in the role of performer in at least one individual and one team sport, and one other from the lists below:

ASSESSMENT:

COMPONENT 1: Written examination

Duration: 2 hours. Takes place in June of Year 11. 100 marks total.

A series of short answer and extended questions on:

  • Health, training and exercise

  • Exercise physiology

  • Movement Analysis

  • Psychology of sport and physical activity

  • Socio-cultural issues in sport and physical activity

50%

COMPONENT 2: Coursework

Ongoing during Years 10 and 11. 100 marks total.

3 sports, and written personal fitness programme.
