Science gives students the opportunity to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It is accepted by universities and employers as proof of essential scientific knowledge and ability. It is a double award course, earning two GCSE grades ranging from 9-9 to 1-1. Students will gain an understanding of the basic principles of each subject through a mix of theoretical and practical studies, while also developing an understanding of the scientific skills essential for further study. Students will be entered for Higher or Foundation tier exams depending on how they have progressed during the course.

In Key Stage 3, students have been learning how science is studied and practised, and that the results of scientific research can have both good and bad effects on individuals, communities and the environment. As well as focusing on the individual sciences, the syllabus helps students to understand the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments.

ASSESSMENT:

Internal assessments will take place throughout KS4 and we will use these to determine the most appropriate exam entry tier for each individual student.
