Physical Education and Health

EXAM BOARD: WJEC

Candidates will be required to offer two activities for assessment and are expected to commit to these sports outside of the PE curriculum. Students must be aware that practical activities may be video recorded and used for assessment. If this is likely to cause an issue, students should not choose this subject. Students opting for GCSE PE should be actively participating in their sports at school level or above.​

Students will be perform in 1 sport from the approved list, and perform in a second sport from the list or provide coaching in a sport from the approved list.

Accessibility and Inclusion:

In addition to the specialist activities that feature on the approved list (such as Boccia and Goalball), any of the other sports or physical activities can be adapted or adjusted as long as the adaptation or adjustment does not compromise the rigour and validity of the assessment.

ASSESSMENT:

COMPONENT 1: Digital examination

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. Takes place in June of Year 11. 80 marks total.

A series of short answer and extended questions on:

  • Factors that affect health and wellbeing, sports and physical activity.

  • Physiological processes for health and sporting performance.

  • Psychological aspects of sports and physical activity.

40%

COMPONENT 2: Non-examination Assessment

60%

120 marks total.

  • Perform in one sport or physical activity from the approved list.

  • Perform in a second sport or physical activity or provide coaching in a sport or physical activity from the approved list.

  • Plan, implement and evaluate a personal training activity over 8-10 weeks for a sport or physical activity from the approved list.  Elements of this will require a vlog to document evidence which students will be responsible for compiling.
