The IGCSE specification in Geography is designed to enable learners to: make decisions that balance care of the environment with economic development; present balanced arguments; develop advanced map and data analysis skills; learn how to use GIS and other software tools; improve their analysis / presentation / evaluation skills; understand other cultures throughout the world; know how to effectively manage climate change locally and globally.
Paper 1: Physical Geography
Candidates study the following five topics: Changing river environments; Changing coastal environments; Changing ecosystems; Tectonic hazards; Climate change. When studying impacts within geography, these are: positive and/or negative; social, economic and environmental; at a range of scales (local, regional, national, global).
Paper 2: Human Geography
Candidates study the following five topics: Changing populations; Changing towns and cities; Development; Changing economies; Resource provision.
Paper 4: Geographical Investigations
Candidates will take part in a field trip in a physical and human outdoor setting and answer questions based on the route to geographical enquiry including: planning and methodology, fieldwork skills, risk assessments, conclusions and evaluations.
